Renaissance and baroque atmosphere of Dubrovnik combines with the living spirit of Croatian and European classic works: squares , palace courtyards and fortresses became a scene for Shakespeare's Hamlet, and works of other classics like Molliere and Goethe. Hamlet has been played by actors of the calibre of Derek Jacobi and Daniel Day Louis.
